GameChange Energy, a US maker of solar trackers, has finished commissioning its Genius Tracker 1P system at a 283MWp PV installation in South Africa known as Mooi Plaats.
Situated close to Noupoort in the Northern Cape, the installation belongs to the Koruson 2 renewable energy cluster and was developed and built by Envusa Energy, a joint venture involving EDF Power Solutions and Anglo American.
Acting as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor are China Energy Engineering Corporation, a state-owned Chinese company, together with its subsidiary China Gezhouba Group Corporation.
Vikas Bansal, who serves as CEO for international operations at GameChange Energy, described the Northern Cape as a location with tough environmental and site conditions, citing strong winds, high temperatures, dust and difficult construction settings that impose heavy demands on tracker design and execution. He explained that the Genius Tracker 1P system was picked to deliver dependable performance amid those conditions while permitting efficient installation on a project of this size, and he expressed appreciation for the close cooperation with CGGC, Envusa Energy and the wider project team during the build.
Renewable electricity from the Mooi Plaats project will be directed to Anglo American’s mining operations in South Africa, among them Kumba Iron Ore, De Beers and Valterra Platinum. Annual generation is projected at almost 360 million kWh, which helps the mining firms cut Scope 2 emissions and expand their renewable electricity supply. More than 1,600 local positions were supported while the project was under construction.
GameChange Energy was more recently chosen to provide its Genius Tracker 1P Terrain Following system for the 380MWp Lower Wonga Solar Farm in Queensland, Australia. Solar developer Lightsource bp is behind that project, and INTEC Energy Solutions is handling EPC work.
In March 2026, the company won a contract to deliver 258MWp of solar trackers for a solar-plus-storage development in Egypt. The previous month, it agreed to supply its Genius Tracker system for the 1.2GW Bisha Solar PV independent power project in Saudi Arabia. GameChange Energy stated at the time that the deal highlighted its growing manufacturing presence in Saudi Arabia, where it has built 6GW of yearly production capacity.
Elsewhere, Spanish tracker producer Gonvarri Solar Steel has reached an agreement to provide trackers for a 389MWp solar PV project in Chile’s Antofagasta region. Set in the Atacama Desert, the project will deploy the company’s TracSmarT+ 1P tracker technology. Building work is due to start in 2026 and last through the first half of 2027. According to Solar Steel, the project will pair solar generation with energy storage.
The deal lifts Gonvarri Solar Steel’s cumulative tracker supply in Chile to nearly 3GW. The company has been active in the Chilean market for over ten years and offers engineering, technical and maintenance services from an office in Santiago. It recently announced that its tracker portfolio had earned independent certification for hybrid solar-plus-storage projects in both AC- and DC-coupled setups.
Chile’s strong solar irradiation and expanding energy storage deployment have underpinned the ongoing development of utility-scale PV projects, especially in the country’s northern areas. In 2025, Gonvarri Solar Steel introduced its TracSmarT+ 1P tracker, a dual-row 1P system capable of tilt angles reaching 60 degrees. The tracker uses the company’s SmarTSlope technology, which lets adjacent piles handle as much as 0.6 degrees of variation so installation can proceed on uneven ground without reducing module row lengths.
Gonvarri Solar Steel, which forms part of Gonvarri Industries, designs and produces solar trackers and fixed structures for the PV industry, having supplied over 32GW of capacity globally.
