Fraunhofer ISE, a Germany-based solar energy research institute, has confirmed 152 solar efficiency records in 40 years of work at its CalLab calibration laboratory. The laboratory has measured solar cells since 1986 and PV modules since 1991, and 66 of the records were for modules and 86 for cells. The first came in 1992, when a mini silicon module from Deutsche Aerospace reached 16.4%. The most recent puts a module from AZUR SPACE, temicon and Fraunhofer ISE at 34.4%, the highest of any solar module today. Longi submitted the latest silicon record module in 2025 at 26.2%. Among the cells, CalLab has confirmed the world’s most efficient, a 47.6% quadruple-junction device, in 2022.
