Plug-in solar has been one of the biggest solar policy success stories of 2026. In the United States, bills to authorize so-called balcony solar installations have been taken up by legislatures in 36 states, and nine states have now passed laws to establish rules for the use of plug-in photovoltaics (PIPV).
Many of these laws require plug-in solar setups to be certified under standards created by a nationally recognized products standards laboratory. Earlier this year, Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) released the UL 3700 Outline of Investigation for Interactive Plug-in Photovoltaic Equipment and Systems, which identifies how PIPV solutions can meet standards for overcurrent protection, touch safety and ground fault protection.
While the text of some state PIPV laws simply identify a generic “nationally recognized standard” that products must meet, others identify UL 3700 by name as the standard to which plug-in solar systems must be certified for installation, making it essentially the de facto standard in the country.
Now, Mango Power has announced that its Mango Power S solution has been certified by Intertek to UL 3700 standards. The announcement makes Mango Power the third company to obtain such a certification, following Hoymiles and APSystems, which announced their own certifications earlier in 2026.
Mango Power sells the Mango Power S plug-in system on its website as a kit, which features four 300 watt solar panels, four of the company’s microinverters, a smart gateway, cables and mounting hardware.
Bright Saver launches successful crowdfunding
Bright Saver, a California-based nonprofit that both advocates for state-level PIPV legislative action and sells its own PIPV kits to members at its cost, has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign on the Climatize platform.
The funding request seeks at least $150,000 and up to $300,000 to help the nonprofit bring in new stock that will be sold to its members in the coming years. The Regulation Crowdfunding
As of press time, the effort has resulted in more that $170,000 from 130 investors, making it successful as it approaches the group’s stretch goal. More details can be found at the Bright Saver project page on the Climatize platform.
