Amazfit has unveiled the T-Rex Dual Solar, a new outdoor smartwatch that, according to the manufacturer, is the first AMOLED smartwatch with dual-sided solar charging. The watch was announced on September 22, 2026, and is now available for 649.90 euros on Amazfit.com and Amazon. In addition to the bright AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, the additional solar panel on the back is designed to provide significantly longer battery life during outdoor use.
Previous solar smartwatches typically charge via a single panel in the display. With the T-Rex Dual Solar, Amazfit takes a different approach and incorporates a second, larger panel on the back of the case. According to the manufacturer, this rear panel offers roughly twice the solar surface area of the front panel. This means that if you set the watch down during a break with its back to the sun, you can still collect additional energy without having to sacrifice the bright AMOLED display.
Sara Webster Wylie, Vice President of Global Marketing at Amazfit, describes the idea behind the model this way: “With the T-Rex Dual Solar, we didn’t want users to have to choose between the bright, high-quality display they want every day and the battery life they need when outdoors.”
Amazfit athlete and mountaineer Jost Kobusch also weighs in on the announcement: “The interesting thing about solar charging isn’t the convenience, but having a real backup when you’re far from civilization.” For multi-day trips without access to a power outlet, that’s exactly the point of the second solar panel.
The 1.32-inch AMOLED display has a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and, according to the spec sheet, achieves a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, which should make it easy to read even in direct sunlight. The display is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire glass. The bezel and buttons are made of Grade 5 titanium, and the frame is made of fiber-reinforced polymer. With a case diameter of 51.4 mm and a weight of 69 grams (16.9 mm thick with the heart rate sensor, 14.5 mm thick without it), the watch visually fits into Amazfit’s well-known T-Rex series.
Amazfit provides several battery life scenarios for the T-Rex Dual Solar, depending on how much sunlight the solar panels receive:
The 180-day figure applies only under optimal conditions with reduced sensor activity and plenty of direct sunlight; in everyday use with the AMOLED display, GPS tracking, and notifications, the actual battery life is likely to be significantly shorter.
For off-road navigation, the T-Rex Dual Solar comes with pre-installed full-color maps featuring expanded road networks; contour maps and ski maps can also be downloaded. Intelligent route planning with turn-by-turn directions, up to 100 saved routes, and automatic recalculation is designed to help even off marked trails. For positioning, the watch uses six satellite systems in dual-band mode, including GPS and Galileo.
In terms of sensors, Amazfit offers heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring with altitude alerts, training load, VO2max estimation, and recovery time. Over 180 sports modes are available, ranging from hiking and diving to golf and HYROX training. It also features a flashlight with white and red light, a microphone and speaker for Bluetooth calls, NFC payments in Europe, and LiveShare for sharing your location in real time. Training and activity data is analyzed via the Zepp app, which doesn’t require a subscription.
At 649.90 euros, the T-Rex Dual Solar is the most expensive Amazfit smartwatch to date and is closing the price gap with Garmin’s outdoor models. When it comes to pure battery life, Garmin still has the edge: According to the manufacturer, the Fenix 9 Pro Solar can last up to 291 days under optimal conditions. Amazfit, on the other hand, claims to be the first major manufacturer to incorporate two solar panels instead of one, and international reviewers rate the hardware as comparatively ambitious for the price.
The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar has been available since September 22, 2026, for 649.90 euros on Amazfit.com and Amazon, initially only in the color Basalt Black. Amazfit has not yet announced any additional color options.
The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar demonstrates that a bright AMOLED display and long battery life are no longer mutually exclusive in outdoor settings. Whether this proves to be a winning combination depends primarily on how much of that up to 180-day battery life remains in real-world hiking scenarios with active GPS tracking. For anyone who has previously opted for a watch with a pure MIP display because of solar charging, the T-Rex Dual Solar is still the most interesting new Amazfit release in a long time.
