Solar module manufacturer Heleine Inc. has launched its new Heliene 108HC All-Black module, the company announced Sept. 29.
The new module aims to bring the supply chain behind rooftop solar back to American shores, officials say. The Mountain Iron, Minnesota-based firm’s new module brings U.S.-made polysilicon, ingots, wafers, and solar cells to the American rooftop solar market, adding that the 108HC All-Black module’s final assembly will take place entirely on U.S. soil.
In anticipation of domestic success, Heliene has paired the module’s launch with an already-signed purchase agreement with Sunrun, the country’s largest provider of residential solar and storage systems.
“Working with Sunrun allows us to invest in the domestic supply chain for rooftop solar,” says David Reasenberg, Heliene’s chief commercial officer. “Through this purchase agreement, more of the materials and manufacturing that go into powering American homes can happen here at home, strengthening our energy security while also keeping rooftop solar affordable for American families.”
The module “represents an important step in reshoring U.S. solar manufacturing,” the company says, only introducing globally sourced components sparingly. The product comes partially as a response to the second Trump administration’s Section 232 proclamation, which imposes heavier tariffs on all polysilicon products coming into the U.S.
Insulating America’s solar supply chain
Heleine representatives say their company’s new module will be a major boon to the U.S. supply chain throughout the solar industry, with the residential sector receiving the biggest perks.
“The module represents an important step in reshoring U.S. solar manufacturing, bringing more of the upstream silicon supply chain back to America,” the company says in a statement. “By connecting American rooftop solar demand with domestic manufacturing across multiple stages of the supply chain, the module can help strengthen the U.S. solar supply chain, support American manufacturing jobs, and reduce exposure to tariffs.”
Outside of the solar supply chain, the new module represents Heleine’s long-term commitment to supporting job growth in the U.S. manufacturing sector. The company says the 108HC All-Black module will help spur jobs throughout the industry, from raw silicon processing through to final product assembly.
Additionally, the firm’s purchase agreement with Sunrun allows for greater investment than ever in the U.S.’s residential solar realm. Nick Smallwood, Sunrun’s SVP of global procurement, says his company applauds the Minnesotan firm for doing its part to bring more domestic solar manufacturing online.
“Investment in the production of domestic modules strengthens supply-chain resilience,” he says, “and supports Sunrun’s strategy of maintaining a diversified, domestic, supplier base.”
Heleine currently operates two solar module manufacturing facilities, both based in the U.S. Together, the plants have a combined annual module output capacity of about 1.3 GW.
