Ørsted, a US-based multi-technology independent power producer, has begun construction on Blackwater Solar. The 200 MW Blackwater Solar farm marks Ørsted’s first project in New Mexico. Blackwater Solar will generate enough electricity to power more than 56,000 homes annually within SPP territory. Ørsted has sourced PV panels for Blackwater Solar from domestic manufacturer First Solar for the farm. Blackwater Solar is backed by a long-term PPA for New Mexico industrial demand. Commercial operations are expected in late 2027 as Ørsted contributes $100,000 to PLJV. Ørsted’s contribution will help restore and conserve an 8.8 acre playa near Melrose New Mexico. Blackwater Solar is expected to contribute nearly $18 million in property tax revenue.
