Independent power producer Renalfa IPP and Danish renewables developer Eurowind Energy have started commercial operations at a 242MWp solar-plus-storage hybrid park in Bulgaria, according to PV Tech.
The Tenevo hybrid renewable energy complex sits in the Tundzha Municipality in southeastern Bulgaria and includes two co-located battery energy storage systems with a combined capacity of 311MW/773MWh.
The solar photovoltaic portion of the project was commissioned in the first quarter of 2026, and the first battery system at the site, rated at 65MW/260MWh, is already in operation.
The complex is jointly owned by Renalfa IPP, a joint venture between Austria’s Renalfa Solarpro Group and French investment manager RGreen Invest, and Eurowind. It is expected to expand further with 250MW of wind power at the same location.
Renalfa Solarpro Group founder and chief executive Ivo Prokopiev described the Tenevo complex as Europe’s first showcase of a dispatchable renewable asset at that scale, adding that Eastern Europe is currently changing the traditional approach to investing in and structuring renewable projects.
The solar PV component secured funding in 2024 from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Austrian bank Raiffeisen Bank International, with EUR50 million and EUR53 million respectively. According to Renalfa IPP, a further EUR60 million of financing for the second phase of the battery storage is set to be signed shortly.

PV Tech publisher Informa will organise the sixth edition of SolarPlus Central & Eastern Europe in Warsaw, Poland, on 24-25 November 2026. Central & Eastern Europe has become one of the most dynamic solar and energy storage markets, a shift reflected in the event’s evolution from Large Scale Solar CEE to SolarPlus CEE, with the two-day programme addressing the hybridisation of the market.
