Next2Sun, a German company specializing in vertical PV technology, has initiated self-administered insolvency proceedings for two entities in its corporate group at the Saarbrucken Local Court in Germany, following a fundraising effort that did not succeed.
The filings cover Next2Sun Technology GmbH and Next2Sun Mounting Systems GmbH, while Next2Sun AG and Next2Sun Projekt GmbH remain outside the proceedings. The Dillingen-based firm stated that all ongoing project development work at Next2Sun Projekt GmbH will carry on, and that the project companies running completed agrivoltaic installations are unaffected by the insolvency filings.
Operations at the two impacted subsidiaries will proceed for now. According to the company, current projects are under review for economic viability and will move forward wherever feasible.
Next2Sun said it will keep looking for investors as part of its restructuring, aiming to save as many jobs as possible and preserve the group’s technical know-how.
The Next2Sun Group has roughly 140 employees across Germany, Austria, Poland and Japan. It has finished over 60 MW of PV projects.
In September, Next2Sun began a share offering intended to raise EUR5 million, or $5.6 million. By month’s end, the company said it had obtained enough investment commitments to reach its target, though these were still subject to verification.
In early October, however, Next2Sun concluded that the commitments were not binding enough to supply the capital required to secure its medium-term operations. Consequently, the company has scrapped the share offering and will not take funds from prospective investors, as previously announced.
Heiko Hildebrandt, a member of Next2Sun’s management board, said the past few weeks had shown strong backing for the company’s vision of combining agriculture and solar energy sustainably, and he expressed thanks to all supporters. He added that while the needed funding level could not be achieved, the company will make every effort to grasp available opportunities to keep operating and restructure.
