Cedar Creek Energy has finished building the Ramsey II Renewable Station, a 5.046-MW solar installation located on close to 25 acres of buffer land next to the Anoka-Ramsey Closed Landfill in Minnesota, according to Solar Power World.
Cedar Creek Energy handled design, procurement and construction for Kearsarge Energy, the owner of the project. Under a 30-year power purchase agreement, Connexus Energy will buy the electricity the system produces.
Alex Gast, chief operating officer of Cedar Creek Energy, described the project as an example of what can be achieved when utilities, developers, regulators and state leaders cooperate on long-term energy solutions.
Work on the array started in March and wrapped up within six months, with no recordable safety incidents. The installation uses roughly 8,700 bifacial solar panels along with terrain-following single-axis trackers, which were chosen to suit the site’s uneven ground and to limit how much grading was required.
The station comes after more than a decade of coordination involving Connexus Energy, the state of Minnesota, the City of Ramsey and other partners to enable redevelopment at the location. Connexus leases the project site from the state. Legislative action in 2021 removed bonding restrictions that had blocked solar development there previously.
Cedar Creek Energy will keep supporting the project under a long-term operations and maintenance agreement. The station is the company’s first within the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Closed Landfill Program.
