Island Green Power has received a development consent order (DCO) for its 500MW Green Hill Solar Farm in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes.
The energy secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh approved the project, which is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) due to its generating capacity of over 100MW. It will also feature a 500MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
It is the third solar NSIP that Island Green Power (IGP) has had consented, behind the 600MW Cottam Solar Project, consented in 2024, and the 480MW West Burton Solar plant, approved in days after the last energy secretary Ed Miliband took the seat. Green Hill is the second solar NSIP approved since Fahnbulleh has been secretary.
Macquarie-backed IGP has been focused on West Burton, with it receiving a Contract for Difference (CfD) in AR7. Cottam is anticipated to have a firm grid connection date toward the end of 2028, meaning it will be IGP’s next fous.

It has other projects, including Lime Down Solar Farm and Light Valley Solar Farm, currently at the examination phase at the Planning Inspectorate, which are expected to be built out pre-2031, alongside Green Hill.
