Solar and storage system construction has begun for Project Sterling in Mohave County, Arizona. ContourGlobal is building the 509-MW solar and 1.4-GWh storage project, for which Tesla has already signed a PPA.
“Arizona’s sun has been shining on this land for billions of years. Project Sterling will put it to work by turning sunlight into electricity and storing part of that energy for delivery after sunset. Our teams engineered the project around the specific needs of our customer, enabling it to deliver reliable clean power for up to 16 hours a day,” said Antonio Cammisecra.
Local construction teams will carry out civil works, road construction and site logistics to install more than 760,000 solar modules and over 300 battery storage containers.
The project sits just off a historic stretch of Route 66 between Topock and Kingman, where infrastructure that once supported America’s westward expansion now gives way to infrastructure designed to power its next phase of growth. To access the site, the company is building Polaris Road, a 5.2-mile route connecting historic Route 66 with the solar and storage project.
