BLC Energy, a United Kingdom-based renewable energy developer, has received planning approval for the 40 MW Kirknewton Solar and BESS Farm in West Lothian, Scotland. The approval was given unanimously by the planning committee of West Lothian Council on 7 October, and it followed a recommendation from the planning officers of the council. The farm will comprise around 83,000 solar panels and a 9 MW BESS, which will store the excess energy and release it to the grid when it is most needed. BLC Energy has stated that the project will generate enough renewable energy to power over 12,500 homes each year. The company will also provide a community benefit fund that is worth GBP 26,000 (~ $34,410) a year throughout the 40-year life of the solar farm. Construction is to take around six months, and the solar farm will begin exporting electricity to the National Grid in 2030, which is its grid connection date.
