Jollibee Group moves 189 Philippine stores to renewable energy – Inside Retail Asia

The Jollibee Group is transitioning 189 company-owned stores in the Philippines to renewable electricity, aiming to lower energy costs and reduce emissions across its retail network.
The initiative, developed with energy supplier First Gen, covers outlets of Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Burger King and Panda Express. The stores represent about 40 per cent of the group’s total Philippine network.
According to the company, the initiative is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 75 per cent and deliver “significant electricity cost savings”.
“Transitioning nearly 200 stores to renewable electricity requires close coordination across our organisation,” said Bong Filart, head of network development at Jollibee Group Philippines.
“By consolidating eligible stores and improving electricity sourcing, we are demonstrating a practical approach that supports operational efficiency while advancing more sustainable business practices.”
The move builds on the group’s broader sustainability strategy, Joy for Tomorrow. Key commissaries and logistics hubs across the Philippines already use 99 per cent renewable energy, combining geothermal power with on-site solar generation.
The group began installing solar panels at selected restaurants in 2014 and plans to extend renewable energy adoption across its retail operations.
