Allied Facility Partners, a design-build and performance contracting firm that serves K-12, municipal and public-sector organizations across Illinois and Wisconsin, has finished a districtwide rooftop solar project for Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 in Illinois, according to Allied. The project covers rooftop solar installations at three district facilities and has a combined system capacity of 843 kW.
The systems are expected to produce roughly 990,654 kWh each year, which would offset an estimated 55% of electricity consumption at those facilities. The arrays are made up of 1,429 solar modules and seven inverters.
David Martin, Operations Coordinator for Cary School District 26, described the project as a significant long-term investment in the district’s future. He said that pairing the solar installations with ongoing roof and facility improvements is raising the efficiency and sustainability of the buildings while the district acts as a responsible steward of its resources. He also noted that the project offers an educational opportunity, letting students and staff observe renewable energy in operation and gain a better understanding of its community impact.
The scope of work included final system design, structural engineering, utility interconnection, permitting, equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, staff training and cloud-based performance monitoring. Allied also coordinated renewable energy credit applications, utility incentive programs and other available funding opportunities to help the district maximize its return on investment. A public-facing energy dashboard gives real-time visibility into solar production and system performance.
The project was delivered through a Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract, which allows the district to carry out comprehensive energy improvements while using projected energy and operational savings to support the investment over time.
