Labour grant permission for 500MW solar farm – Energy Live News

A 500MW solar farm combining solar power with BESS has been approved by the government.
With an estimated output equivalent to the electricity needs of 200,000 homes, the development has been dubbed as a major project. It is planned to cover around 1,200 hectares across Northamptonshire and the Milton Keynes area.
Green Hill has committed to a minimum 47% biodiversity net gain in habitat units, which means that some of this land will be used for a range of environmental and habitat improvements. This is planned to include over 14.4 hectares of green corridors and woodland planting, alongside 50.7km (31.5 miles) of new and improved hedgerows.
The scheme will also include more than 18km (11 miles) of new permissive paths to improve the local footpath network. A community fund will ensure that local people benefit from the scheme.
The application was submitted for consideration by Green Hill Solar Farm on 23rd May 2025 and accepted for examination on 19th June 2025.
