Recurrent Energy, a Canada-based solar and energy storage developer, has started commercial operation at its 200 MW Villameca solar PV plant in Castilla y León, Spain. The plant is expected to generate approximately 359,172 MWh of electricity a year, which is enough to power more than 100,000 homes. With Villameca in operation, Recurrent Energy expects its operating solar capacity in Spain to reach approximately 1 GW by the end of the year. That total will include the 426 MW Rey Solar Project in Andalucía, which has recently been inaugurated. The 315 MW Tordesillas Project in Castilla y León will complete that total when it is connected to the grid later this year. Recurrent Energy, which is a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, also expects to add battery energy storage systems to Villameca.
