The European Union brought in EUR11.4 billion, or $12.8 billion, of green energy goods during 2025 — a category spanning solar panels, biofuels and wind turbines — while its exports amounted to EUR4.6 billion, Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, reported. TradeArabia News Service carried the figures, which reveal uneven results among the three product groups.
By value, solar panels stayed the top green energy import category for the EU even as they contracted sharply. Inbound value dropped 27.7 per cent to EUR8.0 billion, and volume slipped 4.0 per cent, a pattern that points to markedly lower average prices on imported units. Outbound solar panel value declined 23.6 per cent to EUR0.5 billion, though volume grew 2.6 per cent. China kept its place as the EU’s overwhelming solar panel source, supplying 98.6 per cent of all imports in 2025.
Biofuel imports shrank in both value and volume, with value down 7.9 per cent to EUR2.7 billion and volumes off 11.6 per cent. The export side posted a deeper fall, sliding 45.9 per cent to EUR1.0 billion while volume contracted 46.2 per cent. Supplier rankings in the import market shifted substantially. Malaysia emerged as the biggest source with a 21.9 per cent share, trailed by the US at 16.1 per cent, Argentina at 12.4 per cent and the UK at 12.3 per cent. China’s portion collapsed from 24.2 per cent in 2024 to 1.3 per cent in 2025, whereas Malaysia climbed from 15.3 per cent to 21.9 per cent and the US advanced from 8.4 per cent to 16.1 per cent.
Wind turbine imports climbed steeply, with value up 40.6 per cent to EUR0.7 billion and volumes jumping 69.0 per cent. Wind turbines ranked as the EU’s biggest green energy export product, bringing in EUR3.1 billion in 2025, as export value gained 10.8 per cent and volumes rose 9.5 per cent, a sign of sustained overseas demand. China also bolstered its standing in the wind turbine market, lifting its share of EU imports from 41.3 per cent in 2024 to 59.6 per cent in 2025 and moving ahead of India, which held 22.2 per cent.
