Homeowners in Pasadena can tap Pasadena Water and Power incentives for rooftop solar and battery storage, but they need to watch the filing clock: applications are due within 180 days once the required approval is finalized, according to Pasadena Now.
A virtual workshop on Nov. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., will outline the rebate programs and walk residents through contractor selection, permitting, installation, and electrical code requirements.
The two rebate programs start their 180-day application windows at different points.
Solar customers have 180 days to apply after final utility net metering approval, while battery customers have 180 days after final permit approval.
For eligible customer-owned residential rooftop solar systems, Pasadena Water and Power offers 60 cents per watt. Customers participating in the utility’s income-qualified bill assistance programs can receive $1 per watt instead.
For qualifying residential battery systems, the base rebate is $350 per kilowatt-hour. Customers in income-qualified utility assistance programs or the Medical Assistance Program can receive an additional $200 per kilowatt-hour, bringing the maximum incentive to $550 per kilowatt-hour.
Going solar is one of the best ways to save money on home energy. Palmetto is currently running an exclusive offer for Southern California residents that allows customers to save an average of 40% on their electric bills with $0 down.
To qualify for the solar rebate, a system must be customer-owned, installed by a licensed contractor, and approved for interconnection with Pasadena Water and Power.
Crushed by your monthly electric bills? Palmetto can take care of you with an exclusive solar offer for Southern California residents.
Palmetto’s home energy savings plans deliver all the benefits of going solar with zero upfront investment. For a limited time, special rates in Southern California can unlock bill savings of up to 40% — and you can get a custom quote in seconds without sharing your email or phone number.
Systems obtained through leases or solar power purchase agreements are not eligible.
Applicants seeking solar rebate funds must also provide required paperwork, including a paid installation invoice and documentation confirming system capacity.
Home battery customers take on an added obligation after installation.
Once Pasadena Water and Power launches its first qualifying demand-response or virtual power plant program, rebate recipients must participate for at least 36 months.
If a customer declines without an approved exemption or leaves during the first 12 months, the utility may recover a prorated 20% of the original battery rebate.
Residents who join the Nov. 5 virtual workshop can get help understanding the steps before applying, including choosing a contractor, handling permits, completing interconnection, and meeting electrical code requirements.
For the solar rebate, residents should confirm that their system is customer-owned, that a licensed contractor is doing the installation, and that final net metering approval is in place before they apply.
They will also need a paid invoice and system-capacity records, and they must file within 180 days of interconnection approval.
For battery storage, residents should verify that the installer is a licensed electrical contractor and that the system satisfies Pasadena Water and Power’s equipment and interconnection requirements.
They should also plan ahead for the 36-month participation commitment tied to a future demand-response or virtual power plant program.
That planning could pay off well beyond the city rebate itself.
With Palmetto‘s help, the average Southern California resident can save 40% on their electric bills, which can add up to thousands of dollars per year. For households concerned about upfront costs, those savings can make installing solar much more manageable.
After installation is finished and the application is approved, qualifying residents can generally expect their rebate checks within six to eight weeks.
