Mypower installers working on one of their major solar PV projects involving a metal roof
Nationwide solar energy contractor Mypower has joined the Metal Cladding & Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA), strengthening the association’s expertise in this increasingly important area of metal building envelope design and helping to unite two traditionally distinct sectors.
As the first solar PV system designer and contractor of its kind to join the MCRMA, Mypower’s involvement will help to ensure the installer’s perspective on the safe integration of solar panels in metal roofing projects is better represented.
Being a member will also enable the Mypower team to develop its knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of metal roofing and cladding system design and construction to better inform future projects and reduce risk.
Established in 2010, Mypower is an award-winning national commercial solar PV installer based in Gloucestershire.
The company provides consultancy, design, supply, and installation services for high-yield rooftop solar solutions for industrial, commercial and agricultural facilities. To date it has installed over 150,000 panels across more than 500 commercial systems throughout the UK, with projects sometimes involving thousands of panels on a single roof.
Ben Harrison, Founder and Managing Director at Mypower, said: “Joining the MCRMA is a natural step as we expand and share our solar PV installation knowledge in commercial roofing. Working collaboratively with key stakeholders in the roofing and cladding industry, helps improve our roof engineering knowledge and keeps our solar installation standards best-in-class.
“Protecting our clients’ roofs, ensuring that they receive a high quality, energy generating solution, reducing costs and enhancing the value of one of their most valuable assets, their building, is paramount to me, as a Chartered Surveyor.
“Through our membership, our team of experts will be able to develop stronger relationships with metal roofing manufacturers and technical committees to coordinate design and fixing standards with established British Standards and technical guidance.”
Mypower’s approval as an MCRMA member comes at an important time given the rapid growth of rooftop solar PV installations as building owners and operators look to reduce their reliance on grid-generated electricity.
The number of commercial rooftop solar PV installations in the UK has increased significantly over the past five years, driven by soaring electricity costs and policy changes. The UK added over 500 MW of new commercial rooftop capacity in 2024 alone, and the country’s total solar capacity had expanded from around 14–15 GW to almost 24 GW by mid-2026.
Carlton Jones, Director of the MCRMA, added: “We are delighted to approve Mypower as a new member of the MCRMA. Despite the rapid expansion of the solar PV sector, which means they now feature in many metal building envelope projects, collaboration between specialists working in solar energy and those in the metal roofing industry continues to be rather limited.
“Having Mypower’s perspective within the association will, therefore, be extremely valuable as the industry works towards a more integrated approach where both disciplines work more closely together to deliver stronger outcomes for clients.”
