Minnesota Department of Commerce announces state is nearing 400 schools run on solar power – kaaltv.com

(ABC 6 News) — Minnesota is approaching a big milestone as the 400th school in the state is set to become solar powered.
The Minnesota Department of Commerce is spearheading the project as they plan to have the solar array up and running by the end of the year.
Officials from the department visited an elementary school in Maplewood on Thursday morning, to highlight new investments in solar energy.
“When we invest in Minnesota schools, we’re investing in more than classrooms and textbooks. We’re investing in the infrastructure our communities depend on and the opportunities we want the next generation to have,” said Commerce Temporary Commissioner Julia Dreier. “These programs are bringing new technology to schools across Minnesota, and we’re seeing those investments become real projects that students and communities can benefit from every day.”
State leaders say the “Solar for Schools” program has helped 191 districts install solar panels on buildings since 2022, spending over $30 million.
