Emmvee, an Indian photovoltaic manufacturer, introduced a TOPCon solar module built around a four-cut cell design at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2026, according to pv magazine. The company said the module delivers 640-650 W, which it reports as 25-30 W more power than conventional half-cut modules of the same dimensions.
In the quarter-cut design, each solar cell is divided into four sections rather than the two used in conventional half-cut modules. Each section carries one quarter of the module current, which reduces resistive losses in the cell interconnections. The module also employs cell overlap, described as negative cell placement, to improve space utilisation and raise power output without enlarging module dimensions, according to Emmvee.
The module is designed with a lower temperature coefficient, meaning it loses less power as its temperature rises and can sustain higher output in hot conditions. The design is also expected to reduce heat generated inside the module during operation. Emmvee cites improved performance under shading as another benefit: the smaller cell sections limit the area affected by shading and hotspots, allowing the module to maintain approximately 85% performance compared with 75% for conventional modules.
Over the longer term, the new module is engineered to retain its power-generating capacity better. Half-cut modules typically degrade at 1% in the first year and 0.4% annually from the second year onwards, while the quad-cut module has a degradation rate of 0.35% over the corresponding period. Emmvee said the product is designed to retain the same general electrical specification class as its existing half-cut product.
Emmvee also showcased a 2,000 V DC solar module aimed at reducing balance-of-system costs. The higher-voltage module allows more modules to be connected in each string, cutting the number of strings, cables, trenches and electrical components required across a project. That lowers installation time, labour requirements and balance-of-system costs. By carrying the same power at lower current, it also reduces energy losses on DC cables, helping more of the electricity generated reach the grid.
The company said the module requires fewer inverters and combiner boxes, simplifying plant design and maintenance, and that it helps lower the levelized cost of electricity by 1.8%.
