An 18 MW solar farm at Sembawang Air Base has been completed by the Ministry of Defence, a Singapore-based government ministry. The farm, which was launched by Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing on 30 January 2026, is the first at a base of the Singapore Armed Forces. By the end of 2026, its output is expected to be equivalent to powering 4,700 four-room Housing Board flats a year. The cost savings have been put at about SGD 1.9 million (~ $1.5 million) a year. Since the base is home to helicopter squadrons, the panels had to be mounted on structurally reinforced parts of the airfield. Their screw piles were drilled 20% deeper, and each of them was fitted with an extra plate for stability. With this farm, the ministry has met its 2021 goal of 50 MW of solar by 2025, and it now aims for about 68 MW by the end of 2027.
