Putting solar panels on a home can cost tens of thousands of dollars. New York is restoring a program that could knock about $3,000 off the price for lower- and moderate-income Upstate homeowners.
The Affordable Solar Residential Incentive is expected to reopen before the end of the year for customers of National Grid and other Upstate utilities. Once panels are installed, a typical Central New York homeowner could save about $1,200 a year at today’s energy prices, according to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, or NYSERDA.
