Proa launches new platform to optimise renewable energy asset operations – pv magazine Australia

Proa Energy said its Nexo platform brings the company’s renewable energy solutions together in one operating system that connects plant data, forecasting, bidding, dispatch management, performance analytics, reporting and operational workflows.
The Melbourne-based company said the Nexo platform combines its software and on-site hardware solutions to give asset managers, traders, operational teams and external providers a clearer and more consistent view of performance across assets and portfolios while its modular architecture enables them to select the capabilities relevant to their assets and add new modules as their operational requirements and portfolios evolve.
“Nexo is not an additional layer sitting alongside our existing technology. It is the platform that brings our solutions together,” Proa founder and Chief Executive Officer Victor Depoorter said.
“Nexo represents a major step change. It connects plant data, market intelligence and team workflows within one operating environment. It aims at maximising the effectiveness and predictability of renewable assets, which translates into maximised revenue for stakeholders and owners.”
“Our vision is to power the global transition to clean energy by improving performance, cost and reliability across every asset.”
Proa said 12 renewable energy projects across Australia have already adopted or are onboarding Nexo, representing more than 2 GW of contracted capacity. These include two hybrid projects, with the remaining projects spanning stand-alone large-scale solar, wind and battery assets.
Among the projects are four of Vena Energy’s assets in Queensland and South Australia and Potentia Energy’s Quorn Park hybrid project near Parkes in western New South Wales.
The Quorn Park facility, the first large scale solar-battery hybrid power plant to be built on the National Electricity Market, combines an 80 MW solar farm and a 20 MW / 40 MWh battery behind the same connection point.
Potentia Energy Chief Operations Officer Gabriele Mallarini said the Nexo platform is a key part of maximising the performance of the Quorn Park project.
“Nexo is now part of how we operate the project every day, and we’re excited by its potential to help us unlock the full value of hybrid assets,” he said.
Proa, which recently secured $4.1 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to develop a platform to help solar farm operators detect faults, improve performance, and cut operating costs, said the launch of Nexo marks the company’s evolution from a forecasting and monitoring specialist into an integrated renewable energy intelligence partner.
“Nexo is our latest milestone and the foundation for what comes next. It gives us a platform to integrate new hardware, develop new tools and keep improving how renewable energy assets operate,” Depoorter said.
“The energy transition requires more than building new infrastructure. We also need to get more from every asset: better performance, more predictable operations and greater value from the investment already made.”
