U Mobile and HLGY Energy Partner on Smart Solar Farms – Telecom Review Asia

Telecom Review Asia
U Mobile, recognized as Malaysia’s leading 5G network provider, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HLGY Energy Sdn Bhd to work together on innovative smart solar farm solutions in Malaysia, utilizing U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network. This collaboration merges private 5G connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI), and industrial automation to improve the oversight and management of solar farm operations.
HLGY Energy is a Malaysian developer specializing in renewable energy, focusing on utility-scale solar projects and integrated energy solutions within the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), including the Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant.
Through the MoU, both parties will investigate the implementation of a private 5G network that will serve as the digital backbone for the smart solar farm. U Mobile will act as HLGY Energy’s provider of innovation, automation, and communication infrastructure. This dedicated and secure network will support various applications, such as autonomous drone inspections, AI-driven analytics, and smart CCTV surveillance, facilitating remote monitoring, early issue identification, and prompt responses for operational and maintenance needs.
This partnership aligns with U Mobile’s strategy to expand its enterprise offerings, leveraging its ULTRA5G network to meet the evolving demands of the renewable energy industry. Its network has been independently acknowledged by Ookla and Opensignal for its speed and availability. The collaboration also reinforces U Mobile’s position as a digital solutions partner, aiding businesses in their digital transformation.
How Lih Ren, Chief Business Officer of U Mobile, remarked:
“This collaboration will demonstrate how U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network can enable the next generation of smart and sustainable infrastructure. By combining private 5G connectivity with AI and industrial automation, we aim to help HLGY Energy develop renewable energy assets that are safer, more efficient, and increasingly autonomous.
Beyond connectivity, our ambition is to be a trusted digital solutions partner to enterprises across Malaysia. We look forward to applying our network and technology capabilities to support the country’s renewable energy aspirations, including the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).”
Kenneth Yap, Chairman and Executive Director of HLGY Energy, stated:
“Malaysia’s green energy transition needs renewable energy infrastructure that is reliable, efficient, and built for the future. Our collaboration with U Mobile brings together solar energy expertise and private 5G connectivity to explore how AI and automation can improve the way we operate and manage our solar assets.
Integrating AI with solar generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operations can optimize where energy is stored and supplied, help reduce electricity costs, and extend equipment life. As we advance our ambitions under CRESS, we aim to make clean energy a dependable choice for businesses, helping Malaysian industries decarbonize and contributing to the nation’s sustainable growth.”
This initiative also supports HLGY Energy’s long-term renewable energy objectives, including projects under CRESS. It illustrates how advanced connectivity and automation can revolutionize the management of vital energy infrastructure.
The collaboration highlights the increasing integration of digital infrastructure with renewable energy, demonstrating how enhanced connectivity and intelligent technologies can drive the digitalization of Malaysia’s energy framework.
