Botswana’s Water Utilities Corporation invites interest in floating solar PV systems for its dams – Green Building Africa

Botswana’s Water Utilities Corporation has called on eligible and qualified companies, joint ventures and consortiums to express interest in developing floating solar photovoltaic systems at its dams, opening a new opportunity for renewable energy developers in the country’s water sector.
The tender, referenced WUC 056(2026), is intended to identify capable firms that will later be invited to submit detailed proposals or bids through a Request for Proposals for the assignment. The scope covers the design, development and operation of the floating systems.
Local companies must be registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) to take part. Foreign firms must provide certified documentation that defines their constitution or legal status, place of registration and principal place of business in their country of origin, equivalent to CIPA registration. Joint ventures with foreign companies are allowed.
The Expression of Interest documents have been available for download from the WUC website since 20 October 2026. Queries must be sent to the Senior Manager Supply Chain at [email protected] and must reach the office at least ten days before the closing date. Queries received after that deadline will not be answered. The contact person is Z Mmolawa, who can be reached on 360 4407.
Evaluation will follow qualification selection criteria, and bidders must use a one envelope submission method. Each submission must include one original document marked ORIGINAL, two duplicate copies marked COPY and a soft copy on a memory stick or USB drive, all in one sealed envelope. The envelope must carry the reference number, the title of the Expression of Interest, and the name and address of the bidder.
Submissions must be delivered to the Senior Manager Supply Chain, Tender Room, Water Utilities Corporation, Sedibeng House, Plot 17530, Luthuli Road, Old Industrial Site, Gaborone, Botswana. The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Standardized Conditions of Tender for Works will apply, with the applicable tender data contained in the tender documents.
