Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Switzerland-based research and technology centre CSEM have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the research and development of solar energy technologies. The MoU was signed during the Singapore International Energy Week as part of EMA’s efforts to advance solar energy development through public- and private-sector partnerships.
The collaboration will cover solar photovoltaic and grid integration research, technology assessment and the identification of pilot projects to validate, scale up and commercialise emerging technologies. The partnership will also facilitate knowledge exchange and support the deployment of innovative solar solutions.
The Government of Singapore has announced a five-year energy infrastructure plan to meet rising electricity demand. Singapore plans to increase solar capacity from 2.3 GWp currently to 4 GWp by 2035, expand energy storage capacity from approximately 350 MWh to more than 1 GWh by 2030, and invest up to SGD5.3 billion in grid expansion between 2025 and 2029.
