The Tías City Council calls on the residents of Mácher to a meeting at the Guardilama Mácher Sociocultural Center next Tuesday, November 3, at 7:00 PM, due to a new project processed by the Government of the Canary Islands for another photovoltaic plant installation in more than 70,000 m2 in the Mácher area.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, insists that his government group, made up of PSOE and Podemos, rejects this photovoltaic plant and any similar installation that involves land occupation, “and we do not understand how the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, continues to accommodate these types of projects, whose processing was initiated this very month of October”.
José Juan Cruz Saavedra emphasizes that “we are committed to promoting energy saving and the use of renewable energies, but not in this way, but through self-consumption and the occupation of existing roofs, thus avoiding land occupation in the municipality and the visual and environmental impact of the project we are discussing”.
The mayor of Tías points out that the Directorate General of Energy of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has sent the City Council a request for a report regarding the “administrative authorization and declaration, in particular, of public utility of the installation called Photovoltaic Plant Tías II, of 4MW, in the municipality of Tías”.
The City Council has 30 days to submit this report of allegations, technical conditions, and impacts.
As will be recalled, the municipal council already rejected last year another project for the installation of 1,680 photovoltaic modules on rustic land in the municipality, a project that involves the occupation of 28,721 square meters of cadastral surface and whose announcement was published by the Directorate General of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands in the Official State Gazette.
