The administrative file of the Lomo Gordo 4 photovoltaic park, a two-megawatt nominal power installation promoted by Tinojai Renovables, a family company of Del Castillo and Bravo de Laguna, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, has revealed a territorial conflict previously unknown to the public in the south of Gran Canaria.

According to the report issued by the General Directorate of Industry, Mining Service dated August 7, 2023, the land chosen to build the energy infrastructure is located superimposed on the perimeter of a Geothermal Resources Exploration Permit of Section D, called “Lisa 164”.

The technical analysis provided by the mining agency details that, although the projected location for the plant avoids the traditional mining rights corresponding to sections A, B and C regulated by the Mining Law of 1973, the layout and site fully coincide with the interior of this deep geothermal research license.

However, the regional department endorsed the continuation of the file after noting that the geothermal permit currently lacks a mapped or defined location for a future deep research borehole, a milestone that would require a specific administrative authorization procedure and a mandatory environmental impact assessment process before materializing on the ground.

This administrative interference reveals the pressure and saturation that rural land in the south of the island is enduring, where massive files for the penetration of photovoltaic renewable energies and initiatives to harness the heat of the subsoil converge simultaneously.

The project, which has a budget of 1.498.459 euros and includes a 1.907-meter-long underground evacuation line, has had to overcome a complex bureaucratic path marked by unfavorable initial sectoral reports on historical heritage, biodiversity and road safety next to the GC-1 highway, culminating in the granting of its administrative authorization and declaration of public utility with retroactive effects from October 19, 2026.
