ENGIE announces that two major solar projects are now fully operational in India: the 250 MW Khaba project in Rajasthan and the 200 MW Khavda project in Gujarat, with a combined capacity of 450 MW.
These two assets further strengthen the Group’s renewable footprint in the country and demonstrate its ability to deliver large-scale developments while supporting local communities and contributing to regional economic activity, with approximately 80 percent of the construction workforce hired locally.
This operation comes around when ENGIE has secured its first battery storage projects: a 280 MW / 560 MWh BESS in November 2025 and, in January 2026, a hybrid project combining 200 MW of solar with a 100 MW / 600 MWh battery storage system.
Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager India, Managing Director Renewables & Batteries SEA, ENGIE said, “The commissioning of the Khaba and Khavda solar projects marks an important milestone for ENGIE in India, adding 450 MW of new renewable capacity to our operational portfolio. Delivering projects of this scale requires strong execution, operational discipline and close collaboration with local communities. With the majority of our construction workforce hired locally, these projects also reflect our commitment to creating value beyond clean energy generation. As India’s energy needs evolve, we remain focused on building reliable, high-quality renewable infrastructure across solar, battery storage and hybrid solutions to support a cleaner, more resilient and energy-secure future for the country.”
Located in Barmer, Rajasthan, the 250 MW Khaba solar project has been developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE. Each year, the project will generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity and avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Pedro Vasconcelos, ENGIE Executive Vice President in charge of Renewable and Flexible Power, said, “India is a key growth market for ENGIE, where we are continuing to build scale and momentum as we contribute to one of the world’s major energy transitions. As the market evolves, we also see increasing opportunities in corporate PPAs and in combining renewable generation with more sophisticated energy management and flexibility solutions. Our ambition is to build on this momentum and use these capabilities to create additional value for our customers and for ENGIE.”
Located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, the 200 MW solar photovoltaic park has been developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited. The project, contracted to supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), will generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually.
