Singapore-based renewable energy developer Equator Renewables Asia (ERA) has introduced SolarBox, a containerized solar power system designed for rapid deployment at industrial sites, remote locations and temporary installations.
The system integrates 235 kW to 250 kW of PV capacity into a standard 40-foot high-cube shipping container. Once transported to a site, the preassembled solar array unfolds to approximately 120 meters in length using linked folding PV tables mounted on a roller-wheel chassis.
According to the manufacturer, a two-person crew can deploy the system in less than three hours, with deployment taking approximately two hours under suitable conditions. The design minimizes the need for conventional foundations and allows the installation to be relocated when land-use requirements change.
Each SolarBox incorporates 368 n-type TOPCon bifacial solar modules rated at 640 W, providing approximately 235.5 kW of DC capacity in the reference configuration. The modules measure 2,382 mm × 1,134 mm × 30 mm and come with a 25-year power warranty.
The system features two 100 kW inverters in its standard configuration, providing 200 kW of AC output. The manufacturer’s specifications also list 115 kW inverter options. The electrical architecture supports 400 V three-phase output at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, with integrated DC and AC protection, surge protection, grounding, remote monitoring and energy metering.
ERA said the system is designed to operate in grid-connected and off-grid configurations, with optional integration of battery energy storage systems and diesel generators. Its prewired architecture allows connection to a site’s electrical infrastructure through a single AC connection point, reducing the amount of electrical installation work required on site.
The company offers several system configurations, ranging from a single 250 kWp unit to multi-container installations. Four SolarBox units can be combined into a 1 MW installation, while a reference hybrid microgrid configuration combines three units, totaling 750 kW, with 964 kWh of battery storage. For utility-scale applications, ERA proposes configurations of up to 10 MW using 40 SolarBox units connected through AC combiners and medium-voltage transformers.
The container measures 12.19 meters in length, 2.44 meters in width and 2.90 meters in height, with a reported gross transport weight of approximately 24 metric tons.
ERA has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Aster Power, the energy business of Singapore-based industrial group Aster, to assess the deployment of SolarBox at facilities on Singapore’s Bukom and Jurong islands.
Announced during Singapore International Energy Week in October 2026, the agreement will see the companies evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of deploying relocatable PV systems in large industrial environments where land may only be available temporarily.
“Many industrial sites have land that is only available for a limited time, which makes a fixed solar installation hard to justify,” said ERA CEO Frank Phuan. “SolarBox is designed for that situation. It can be set up quickly, moved when the land is needed for something else, and redeployed elsewhere.”
ERA also provided indicative capital-expenditure-based levelized cost of electricity estimates ranging from $0.0194/kWh in Australia to $0.0292/kWh in Singapore. The calculations are based on equipment costs delivered FOB China in the third quarter of 2026 and exclude transportation, installation and other ancillary costs. They should therefore not be interpreted as full project-level LCOE estimates.
The company has not disclosed the commercial selling price of SolarBox or a timeline for potential deployment at Aster’s facilities.
