Chinese solar module manufacturer Longi has unveiled its Hi-MO X12 module series. The new back-contact modules target residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftop solar applications, with a focus on power density, interconnection design and long-term reliability.
The Hi-MO X12 series is based on Longi’s hybrid passivated back contact (HPBC) 2.0 cell technology and features an integrated conductive backsheet architecture that replaces conventional soldered ribbons with conductive metal foil circuits embedded in the rear encapsulation structure.
According to Longi, the design enables cells to connect directly to the conductive backsheet, eliminating more than 15,000 potential solder-joint failure points per module. The company said the architecture increases the current-carrying cross-sectional area by 85%, resulting in a power gain of 6 W to 8 W compared with conventional interconnection designs.
The modules also feature what Longi calls Full-Screen Technology, which combines shingled cell layouts with hidden busbars to reduce inactive areas and front-side shading losses. The manufacturer claims the design delivers an additional 8 W to 12 W, bringing the total power gain to between 14 W and 20 W.
The larger-format LR7-72WVD module for C&I applications is available in power ratings ranging from 660 W to 690 W, with a maximum module efficiency exceeding 25.54%, according to the manufacturer.
The smaller LR7-54WVD series is available in four power classes ranging from 495 W to 510 W, with module efficiencies of 24.25% to 24.99% under standard test conditions, according to the product datasheet.
The 108-cell, dual-glass LR7-54WVD module measures 1,800 mm × 1,134 mm × 30 mm and weighs 23.5 kg. It features a black anodised aluminum frame and front and rear semi-tempered glass layers measuring 2.0 mm and 1.6 mm thick, respectively.
The module has a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/C, an operating temperature range of -40 C to 85 C and a maximum system voltage of 1,500 V. The datasheet specifies front and rear static load ratings of 5,400 Pa and 2,400 Pa, respectively, as well as resistance to impacts from 25 mm hailstones traveling at 23 m/s.
Longi said the new interconnection design also improves mechanical durability. The company claims its ultra-thin stacking process reduces internal stress by 60%, while an integrated metal foil barrier reduces water vapor transmission by 90%.
The LR7-54WVD series comes with a 25-year product warranty and a 30-year performance warranty. Longi guarantees maximum first-year degradation of 1%, followed by annual degradation of 0.35%, corresponding to approximately 88.9% of the initial power output after 30 years.
The product datasheet lists IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 among the applicable certification standards and includes certification marks from TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD.
Longi has not disclosed Australian pricing, initial shipment volumes or a commercial delivery schedule for the Hi-MO X12 series.
At the same event, the manufacturer also introduced its Hi-MO 9 Prime utility-scale module and showcased its LongiBank 3.0 and OneMatrix energy storage solutions, alongside the Longi Block modular PV system.
