Name of the Project
Turner River solar farm.
Location
Pilabara, Australia.
Project Owner/s
Fortescue.
Project Description
The project will entail the construction of a 690 MW solar farm. It forms part of Fortescue’s integrated renewable-energy ecosystem – the Pilbara Green Grid – which is being built to power the company’s Pilbara operations using renewable energy. More than one-million solar panels will be installed at Turner River.
Once completed and combined with Fortescue’s Solomon Airport (440 MW), and the Cloudbreak (190 MW) and North Star Junction (100 MW) solar farms, Fortescue will have delivered all solar generation required to achieve its Real Zero decarbonisation plan across its terrestrial iron-ore operations.
The projects will, together, generate more than 1.4 GW of renewable-energy capacity – enough to power about 500 000 Australian homes.
