Name of the Project
Highveld Solar Park.
Location
Near eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Project Owner/s
Highveld Hybrid Energy.
The project is being developed by independent power producer SolarAfrica, in partnership with MPower, which is the Moolman Group’s energy platform, and investment partner Fledge Capital.
Project Description
The project entails the development of a 184 MWp utility-scale solar PV facility incorporating a 300 MWh battery energy storage system.
The battery system will store renewable electricity generated during the day and discharge it during periods of higher demand.
This will extend the availability of solar energy beyond daylight hours and enable customers to increase the proportion of renewable energy used in their operations.
Electricity from the project will be supplied to corporate and industrial customers through wheeling arrangements.
The hybrid configuration is intended to give customers greater control over when they use renewable electricity and when they draw power from their conventional electricity supply.
It is also expected to provide businesses with greater energy security, long-term price certainty and reduced carbon emissions.
