RadianX Secures $9 Million to Scale Production of Perovskite Solar Modules – citybiz

RadianX, a Redwood City, California-based developer of perovskite photovoltaic technology, has secured $9 million in combined venture and project financing to expand manufacturing of its solar modules for connected devices, wearables and other electronics.
The financing includes a seed round co-led by SOSV and Twynam, with participation from One Small Planet, Sahsen Ventures, Avila VC, California Innovation Fund, quantumEDGE, Riceberg Ventures and Alumni Ventures.
RadianX, formerly known as California Perovskite Technology, also announced a manufacturing partnership with Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing (PUT), a publicly traded precision components manufacturer.
Under the partnership, PUT will help finance a dedicated production line designed to support commercial-volume manufacturing of RadianX’s photovoltaic modules.
The company plans to establish an initial automated production line with 6 megawatts of annual capacity, creating a manufacturing model it intends to replicate at larger scales.
RadianX develops ultra-thin solar modules that convert indoor, outdoor and diffuse light into electricity, targeting applications where conventional batteries require frequent replacement or recharging.
Its technology is designed for sensors, wireless asset trackers, wearables, connected devices and physical AI systems.
The modules can be manufactured as thin as 0.7 millimeters, with customizable dimensions and output voltages that allow integration into existing product surfaces.
“Most connected devices still depend on a battery that someone has to replace,” said Josh Douglas, co-founder and chief operating officer of RadianX. “Our job is to turn that light those devices already receive into power, to drive increased uptime and even reduce or eliminate the battery.”
Perovskite photovoltaic technology has attracted interest as an alternative to conventional silicon solar cells, particularly for lightweight applications and environments with limited illumination.
However, commercialization has been constrained by material degradation, challenges maintaining efficiency at larger module sizes and concerns about lead content.
RadianX said its modules have received TÜV certification across all three categories of IEC TS 63163, including Category 3 for products exposed to demanding outdoor conditions.
The company also reported certified conversion efficiency of 22.33% on a 1.2-by-0.6-meter module, which it said represented a world record for that format at the time of testing.
Its modules have also passed lead-release testing under the European Union’s REACH regulation and comply with RoHS requirements, according to the company.
“By building our first automated 6MW production line, we are creating a blueprint we can replicate at larger scale anywhere in the world,” said Vivian Qu, co-founder and CEO of RadianX.
As part of its manufacturing expansion, RadianX has appointed Gary Chen, former CEO of Riverside, California-based solar manufacturer Sunspark, as vice president of manufacturing and product.
The company is also working with NGK Corporation to combine its photovoltaic modules with NGK’s EnerCera batteries for wireless asset tracking applications.
RadianX is participating in the 2026 Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, operated by Plug and Play.
PUT CEO Tiger Yang said the manufacturing partnership will combine RadianX’s photovoltaic technology with PUT’s production capabilities to address customer demand.
The financing positions RadianX to move from certified technology development toward higher-volume manufacturing as electronics manufacturers explore ways to extend device operating life and reduce dependence on replaceable batteries.
