US-based perovskite solar module manufacturer RadianX has secured $9 million in combined venture capital and project financing. The company plans to use the funding to scale up production of modules for connected devices, including sensors, wearables, and asset trackers, with a new automated production line featuring 6 MW of annual capacity.
“Most connected devices still depend on a battery that someone has to replace,” said Josh Douglas, co-founder and chief operating officer of RadianX. “Our job is to turn that light those devices already receive into power, to drive increased uptime and even reduce or eliminate the battery.”
RadianX’s single-junction perovskite modules are designed to harvest energy from indoor, outdoor, and diffuse light. The company said the modules are available in customized sizes and output voltages, with thicknesses starting at 0.7 mm to enable integration into existing product surfaces. It reported certified efficiencies of 22.33% for a 1.2 × 0.6 m module and 24.24% for a 300 × 300 mm module.
The company’s thin-film technology uses a perovskite absorber less than 1 µm thick, deposited onto glass or film substrates using low-temperature coating processes. RadianX said it can adjust the absorber’s bandgap to optimize energy harvesting under different lighting conditions, including artificial indoor lighting and sunlight. Its modules reportedly achieve a power density of 50 µW/cm² under 500 lux illumination, with a third-party-tested indoor conversion efficiency of 38%.
RadianX offers rigid glass-based modules under its AlphaGlass product line and semitransparent modules under the AlphaVis brand. It is also developing flexible modules under the AlphaFlex name. The company said its technology is intended to provide a continuous power source for low-power electronics, reducing reliance on replaceable batteries in Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The company also reported third-party durability testing under IEC TS 63163, a technical specification covering photovoltaic modules integrated into consumer products. According to RadianX, its modules have passed testing under all three categories, including Category 3 for applications involving substantial outdoor exposure. The company said accelerated testing supports a projected service life of more than 10 years.
“We’ve shown record certified efficiency on a full-size module and third-party certified durability on the same platform,” Vivian Qu, co-founder and chief executive officer of RadianX, told pv magazine. “Our modules are already powering devices indoors and out, and everyone we ship adds to the field data the industry needs.”
The seed funding round was co-led by SOSV and Twynam, with participation from One Small Planet, Sahsen Ventures, Avila VC, California Innovation Fund, quantumEDGE, Riceberg Ventures, and Alumni Ventures.
Manufacturing partner Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing (PUT) will also contribute financing for a dedicated production line targeting connected devices and IoT applications. The planned expansion is intended to support the transition from smaller-scale manufacturing to automated module production.
