Ignitis Renewables, a Lithuania-based renewable energy developer, has brought the 174 MW Tume solar farm in Tukums municipality in Latvia into commercial operation. The farm, which has been built across 302 hectares, carries more than 282,000 solar panels. Those panels have been mounted on trackers that follow the sun during the day, and Tume is the first project of the company in which such trackers have been used. It is also the first of its projects that is to be maintained mainly by its own specialists. According to the company, the farm will be able to meet the annual electricity demand of about 85,000 households. Its output is to be optimised by a 107 MW/215 MWh BESS, which is now under construction at the same site and is to be integrated with the farm.
