Malaviya Solar Energy plans to work with manufacturers and recyclers to support sustainable solar waste management.
With India set to generate millions of tonnes of end-of-life solar panels, how will the country recycle them responsibly? Malaviya Solar Energy Consultancy has obtained an exclusive technology licensing agreement from LuxChemtech GmbH, unlocking an advanced, eco-friendly solar panel recycling process built on circular economy principles.
Malaviya Solar Energy Consultancy, based in Pune, has entered into an exclusive technology licensing agreement with LuxChemtech GmbH, Germany, for patented solar panel recycling. The process follows a zero-waste approach and supports a true circular economy using a fully eco-friendly, globally patented method.
A key outcome of the technology is its ability to recover over 98 per cent of metals from end-of-life solar panels. This high recovery rate significantly increases the value of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) certificates, making recycling both environmentally and economically attractive.

LuxChemtech develops advanced recycling technologies and equipment for recovering silicon scrap and other specialised waste, including photovoltaic modules. Its process uses water and organic chemicals to safely separate and recover valuable metals.
The technology is backed by the EU-funded PHOTORAMA project (PHOtovoltaic waste management – advanced Technologies for recOvery & recycling of secondary RAw MAterials). Running from 2021 to mid-2025, the project developed a circular economy model for solar panel recycling, with a pilot line set up at LuxChemtech’s facility in Germany.
India aims to reach 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with solar expected to contribute up to 350 GWp. This growth could result in nearly 19 million tonnes of solar panel waste, rising further if modules are retired early. Valuable materials such as silver alone could exceed 10,000 tonnes.
Malaviya Solar Energy Consultancy plans to work with glass and aluminium manufacturers, e-waste processors, and start-ups under this technology licence, supporting India’s transition to sustainable solar waste management.
