PM Modi Praises Manipur’s Moirangthem Seth for Revolutionizing Local Solar Power Use
In an inspiring example of local innovation, Shriram Moirangthem Seth, a young man from Manipur, has turned the electricity problem into an opportunity for growth, using the power of solar energy to transform the lives of many people in his community.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged Moirangthem’s work during his recent “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast, praising his efforts to tackle local challenges with solar energy solutions. The Prime Minister on Sunday highlighted that under the ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana,’ the government is providing financial assistance of around Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000 to each eligible family for installing solar panels. Moirangthem’s personal initiative is aligning perfectly with the government’s push to promote renewable energy, and his efforts are solving the electricity problems in the state.
Moirangthem is less than 40 years old and hails from a remote region of Manipur where electricity has always been a major issue. Instead of relying on external solutions, he decided to focus on sustainable solar power. As the availability of sun energy is abundant in Manipur, he launched a campaign to install solar panels across his village and surrounding areas.
Today, thanks to his efforts, hundreds of homes in his locality now have access to clean, renewable energy. Moirangthem’s initiative goes beyond providing electricity as it is improving healthcare and also the livelihood of local people. Solar power is now energizing local health centres, enabling better services for residents.
Another notable impact of Moirangthem’s work has been the positive effect on women’s empowerment in the region. Local women, particularly those in rural areas, have benefited from solar power solutions that support both their homes and small businesses. Furthermore, the local fishermen and artists have also seen a marked improvement in their work and livelihoods.
In his message, Prime Minister Modi extended his best wishes to Moirangthem, further motivating others to look toward innovative solutions like solar energy to address local challenges.
