BORON – Another part of the Aratina Solar Farm is under construction just west of Desert Lake and many residents around the community of Boron and Desert Lake are concerned due to the threat of Valley Fever and the dust causing problems for their children who attend West Boron Elementary School.
All applications for the project were submitted to the county and construction couldn’t start until the county approved.
Kern County Boron Branch librarian Sarah Cook-Chavez shared on Facebook wanting to let community members know what’s going on. “I would like to share an upcoming construction update as a fellow community member and as someone helping to bridge the communication between our community and Aratina Solar.”
“Construction west of Desert Lake began January 5th. The first phase will involve building the same brown perimeter fence that many of you have already seen, located south of Boron.”
She continued by saying, “I know one of the biggest concerns with any construction in our area is dust, and that concern is completely valid. Dust impacts daily life, health, visibility, and overall comfort—especially here in the desert. I have shared these concerns with the company and will continue to emphasize the importance of dust control for our community. If you have questions, concerns, or specific issues—especially related to dust, you are encouraged to contact the company directly at: aratina@avantus.com.”
She concluded her post by saying, “Clear communication is essential, and direct dust, concerns directed to the project team helps ensure they are heard and addressed appropriately. I will continue to share updates as they become available and do my best to facilitate the flow of information in both directions.”
