Bid Launched To Extend Shannon Solar Farm Operational Life By 12 Years – Clare FM

A Meath-based green energy supplier has launched a bid to extend the operational life of its solar farm in south Clare by more than a decade.
GP Joule Ireland Limited is looking to keep its over 60,000 square metre Shannon facility in place for a further 12 years.
Terra Solar Limited was granted planning permission in September 2018 for a 63,000 square metre solar farm in the townlands of Clonloghan and Caherteige.
The development consists of solar panels on ground-mounted frames, a single-storey substation, four single-storey electrical inverter and transformer stations, and a battery storage module.
Other elements of the project included an equipment container, security fencing, a satellite pole, CCTV, access tracks, drainage and a new site entrance from the R472.
One of the conditions of the planning permission was that the development would have an operational life of 25 years.
Now, GP Joule Ireland Limited is seeking permission to amend this condition and extend the duration of the development to 37 years.
Submissions relating to this proposal can be made up to March 3rd and a decision will be made by Clare County Council by March 24th.
