Stockton Council has applied to its own planning department with plans to put 175 solar panels on a local centre’s roof.
The authority has submitted a “prior notification application for the installation of 175 roof-mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) panels” at the Allensway Centre, Allensway, Thornaby. In the application, the council says the anti-glare solar PV panels will be installed on the pitched roof.
It says the panels can produce 78.75kWp in electrical generation capacity. It adds that no part of the equipment would come within a metre of the external edge of the roof, nor protrude more than 0.2m beyond the plane of the roof slope.

Highways, transport and design, environmental health and land and property services have been consulted on the plan. A consultation on the notification expires on March 6, with a decision due date of April 2.
