Schools in Somerset are being invited to take part in hands-on learning experiences.
They are being offered at a community-owned solar farm just outside Burnham-on-Sea.
Burnham and Weston Energy has announced the scheme, which will see fully funded educational visits for pupils at its Lympsham site.
The sessions aim to teach children about climate change, renewable energy, and biodiversity, while giving them an up-close look at how solar energy is produced.
Harry Barlow, who is hosting the visits, said: "We want young people to see that tackling climate change isn’t just about technology, it’s about caring for the world around us.
"By opening up the solar farm, we hope to inspire pupils to think differently about energy and the environment, and to see that Somerset is already playing its part in a cleaner, greener future."
Each visit will include coach travel, a short safety briefing, and a guided tour of the solar farm.
Pupils will learn how sunlight is converted into electricity that powers nearby homes.
They will also take part in a hands-on conservation activity, such as building an amphibian habitat near one of the site’s ponds.
The session is designed to prompt discussion about how solar farms can also benefit wildlife and the wider environment.
The initiative is part of Burnham and Weston Energy’s broader community benefit programme.
Profits from the 9.3MW solar farm are reinvested in local projects that support sustainability and wellbeing.
Through its Sunshine Fund, the solar farm already delivers grants to community groups and charities to run projects that benefit local people or the environment.
Schools across Burnham, Highbridge, Weston-super-Mare, and surrounding areas are invited to express interest in taking part.
Visits will be scheduled on consecutive days to allow several schools to participate.
Teachers are encouraged to contact Burnham and Weston Energy to discuss dates and the number of classes that might attend.
The trips will be held in late spring or early summer, making the most of good weather.
The programme is designed not only to educate, but to inspire the next generation of workers in renewable energy, ecology and environmental protection.
