Edison consolidates its renewable energy development strategy, with new construction projects for over 160 MW – Agenzia Nova

These are photovoltaic plants (over one hundred MW) and wind plants (50 MW), which for at least two thirds are part of the capacity awarded – equal to 500 MW – in December 2025 at the Fer-x auctions, of which Edison was among the main assignees.

Edison confirms its development path in renewables and announces the start of construction on over 160 megawatts (MW) of new projects during the first half of 2026. This was announced in a press release. These projects include photovoltaic (over 100 MW) and wind (50 MW) projects, at least two-thirds of which are part of the 500 MW of capacity awarded in the Fer-x auctions in December 2025, of which Edison was among the leading bidders. Also within the first half of the year, the group plans to commission new renewable projects with a total capacity of over 170 MW, after completing construction on over 200 MW in 2025. The start of construction on the new projects will result in an investment of €215 million and, according to estimates, will require the employment of approximately 400 workers and 70 suppliers.
“Our construction capacity and contribution to the country’s energy transition goals are constantly growing,” comments Marco Stangalino, Edison’s executive vice president of power assets. “Our strategic plan calls for doubling installed green capacity in the coming years,” he adds, “a development that will be achieved at least 60% through the regulated market. The new projects are part of the 500 MW awarded last December at the Fer-x auctions, a mechanism that allows operators to make essential investments to transform the country’s generation mix, benefiting the competitiveness of the entire system.”
To ensure more efficient and competitive energy use, Edison is combining the growth of renewables, which are intermittent by nature, with flexibility and storage tools, essential for ensuring grid stability and security. With this in mind, the group is developing five pumped hydroelectric projects in southern Italy (in Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia, Sardinia, and Sicily). Over the past year, Edison has increased its investments overall by 19%, 86% aligned with the UN SDGs and 62% with the EU Taxonomy. The renewables sector has seen the most significant growth, with investments up 90% compared to 2024, confirming the organic growth trajectory of installed capacity from renewable sources outlined by the group.
