A community group is gearing up to challenge plans for a large-scale solar farm in East Riding.
The proposed development would cover 4,000 acres of East Riding countryside, stretching from Londesborough to Holme Upon Spalding Moor.
It is being advanced by Macquarie Asset Management through its subsidiary, Island Green Power, and would involve more than a million solar panels.
The Anti Humberhead Alliance (AHA) has launched a campaign to oppose the project, following a public meeting in Londesborough where 60 residents agreed to take action.
George McManus, of ERASE: East Riding Against Solar Expansion, said: “This is great news.
“The meeting on Saturday was packed with standing room only.
“The level of opposition to these plans is enormous, and whilst it’s a challenge to take on such a behemoth as Macquarie, it’s clear that local people are not willing to stand by as the character of our beautiful landscapes is industrialised.”
Concerns raised at the meeting included loss of food production, social amenity, and impact on wildlife and tourism.
Councillor Amanda Gupta, chair of Holme Upon Spalding Moor Parish Council, was elected as campaign co-ordinator.
She will now start work setting up a campaign working group to manage and direct the campaign.
