According to pv magazine, Tunisia’s Ministry of Energy and Mines has initiated a tender for a large-scale solar and battery storage facility. The project will involve a 300 MW solar farm paired with a 150 MW battery storage system with a capacity of 540 MWh.
The installation is set to occupy a 400-hectare site near the southern town of Kebili. Independent power producers have until October 14 to submit their proposals for the development.
This initiative follows recent growth in Tunisia’s solar sector. In December, a Dubai-based developer, Amea Power, brought a 120 MW solar plant online, which is currently the nation’s largest operational solar facility. Industry data indicates Tunisia now possesses over 728.8 MW of operational solar capacity, approaching a total of 1 GW.
Earlier in March, the Tunisian government approved licenses for four new utility-scale solar projects with a combined capacity of 500 MW. These projects were chosen as part of a broader 1.7 GW renewable energy tender program.
