Newave Energia, a joint venture between Newave Capital and Gerdau, has announced construction of the Barro Alto solar plant in Goiás. The project will have an installed capacity of 452 MW and is scheduled to begin full operations in 2026. The total investment is estimated at BRL 1.3 billion (~ $244.30 million), supported by internal funding and financing from SUDECO via Banco do Brasil. The plant will deploy around 731,000 solar panels across approximately 800 hectares. It is expected to generate about 111 MWm, sufficient to supply a city of around 365,000 inhabitants. Over 1,500 direct jobs are expected during construction, with part of the energy allocated to Gerdau’s operations and the remainder sold in the free energy market. The project is projected to increase Goiás’ solar capacity by 22%, positioning solar as a key energy source in the state.
