Energy shock sees solar enquiries go through the roof – Business Biscuit

The number of people searching the internet for solar panels has gone through the roof since the start of Donald Trump’s Middle East crisis, according to renewable energy supplier Good Energy.
The Chippenham-based firm said search interest for “solar panels” was up by 104 per cent.
The rise, says the firm, highlights growing demand for affordable, home‑grown power solutions that give households and businesses greater control over their energy bills.
This sharp increase in interest reflects ongoing global instability, which continues to expose the UK’s dependence on volatile international gas markets and leave consumers vulnerable to unpredictable price rises. As bills remain high, Good Energy believes more people are actively looking for practical ways to reduce reliance on imported energy.
Britain already leads in home‑grown renewables, with wind and solar now the cheapest forms of new power generation available. However, barriers remain that slow deployment across homes, schools, businesses and other non‑domestic sites.
Scaling renewables alongside storage and flexibility is widely recognised as the most effective long‑term route to lower energy costs. By enabling more people to generate their own clean power, the UK can reduce exposure to global markets, cut bills and strengthen national energy security through predictable, British energy sources.
The data comes as the Government prepares to set out its Future Homes Plan, with growing public attention on how new and existing homes can be better protected from high and volatile energy costs.
Nigel Pocklington, CEO of Good Energy, said: “The most effective way to bring bills down over the long term is to double-down on renewables, alongside storage and flexibility, so more of our power comes from predictable, home‑grown sources.
“Mandating solar on new homes is common sense and we should be putting solar on any building that can take it. That’s how we cut costs, strengthen energy security and give people real control over the energy they rely on every day.
“At a time of global uncertainty, including instability in the Gulf, building homes that are fit for the future is one of the most practical steps we can take to protect the UK from future energy price shocks and reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels.”
