Residents voice concerns over proposed solar farm project in Clifton Park – WNYT.com

CLIFTON PARK, NY (WNYT) – A proposed solar farm project on Mac Elroy Road is leading to some upset neighbors in Clifton Park.
Community members held a meeting at the Jonesville Fire House Monday night to discuss the ways they could combat this proposal.
The proposal, being led by NextEra Energy, circles around building a 119-acre solar farm on land that is currently farmland.
“It’s going to destroy the land. It’s an environmental nightmare,” resident Eleanor Bullock said.
Others are worried about their property values decreasing and the noise that the solar farm will bring to the area.
“Instead of hearing crickets in my backyard when I’m building a fire and, having a drink in my backyard, I’m going to be hearing the sound of a solar farm. Not to mention the fire risk that comes along with it,” said resident Frank Florio.
Jonesville Fire Chief Rich Craver attended Monday night’s meeting and spoke about the dangers if a solar farm like this were to catch fire.
“The smoke and the toxic fumes is dangerous for anyone,” Craver said. “They’re made up of acrylics and a lot of heavy metals toxic gases that, that puts off, enormous ventilation hazards.”
NewsChannel 13 reached out to NextEra Energy for a statement, we have not yet received a response.
