Davenport leaders updated on solar farm ordinance after almost year-long pause – KWQC

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Davenport leaders were updated on the proposed solar farm ordinance that’s been paused for almost a year on Tuesday.
The Community Planning Department gave a presentation that included how people would be able to use solar and where it could be.
The new ordinance would allow solar panels in agricultural districts, industrial and light industrial areas.
In residential areas, solar farms would need to be in back yards, side yards or on the roof.
Commercial use would be the same as residential areas, with some restrictions.
Kyle Gripp, an alderman at-large, said after hearing the community’s concerns and a commercial interest in bringing solar farms to Davenport, the council acted.
“It might be good to have solar providing electricity and energy for the grid,” Gripp said. “So that’s what it’s about, you know, land use is about making sure that we have the appropriate uses and the appropriate places so Davenport can continue to grow and be the best city that we can be.”
The city council will discuss the proposals to make a decision in June for a potential new updated solar ordinance.
The moratorium on the solar farm ordinance expires on June 25.
